Event Information:
Thanks to Hartlepool Music Society, music lovers will have the rare chance to see one of the leading lights of the opera world in Hartlepool as part of next year's Tall Ships celebrations. This concert has been arranged by the Society in addition to its normal six-concert season.
Only four hundred people will be able to see internationally acclaimed baritone Sir Thomas Allen give a one-off recital in the Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre, so be sure to book early.
The Seaham-born singer, who is Honorary President of the Hartlepool Music Society, is an established star of the great opera houses of the world. He has sung more than forty roles alone at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, so it will be a rare treat for people to see him perform in the more intimate venue of the Town Hall Theatre.
Sir Thomas' programme will see him perform a selection of operatic pieces, but also some sea shanties with a local flavour. He personally wrote to the Hartlepool Music Society to confirm his performance, saying that he was looking forward to being here during The Tall Ships Races 2010.
Hartlepool Borough Council's Assistant Director of Community Services John Mennear said: “It is a real coup to have Sir Thomas perform during The Tall Ships Races 2010. He has great standing in the music world and it's a wonderful way to launch our entertainment programme for this event,” he added.
Sir Thomas Allen will be performing on Saturday 7 August 2010. Ticket prices range between £25 and £20, with concessions available. Tickets for the general public are now on sale from the Tourist Information Centre (within the Hartlepool Art Gallery in Church Square). Opening hours are Tuesday- Saturday, 10-5pm, or telephone 01429 890000.
Members of the Music Society have already been circulated with the details and ticket arrangements for this concert. If further information is needed they can contact the Membership Secretary on 01429 291720.
