Artist Information:

Sophie is 23 years old and began to play the violin at the age of four. She studied the violin with professor Wen Zhou Li at Chetham's School of Music for five years and is now continuing her studies with him at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester on the RNCM International Artist Diploma in Solo Performance.

Sophie has performed regularly as a soloist and chamber musician from a very young age. An early highlight was a solo concerto for HRH Princess Margaret when she was just seven years old at the Grange School, Hartford. More recently Sophie performed a recital at the Wigmore Hall as part of the Razumovsky Academy and an MMSF Recital at the Royal Festival Hall, London Southbank Centre.

This year Sophie won the Second Prize and Audience Prize in the prestigious 2nd Manchester International Violin Competition where she performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and was recorded for Classic FM Radio Station. She reached the strings final of the Royal Overseas league competition 2011 has also participated with success in the Michael Hill Violin Competition, the 3rd China International Competition and Kreisler International Competition. As a young violinist she reached the semi finals of the Junior Wieniawski Competition in Poland 2003, the Strings Final of BBC Young Musician 2006 and was First Prizewinner of the Lions European Music competition 2008.

During her undergraduate studies Sophie received several prizes including the RNCM's prestigious Gold Medal Award 2010. Sophie took part in the 2010 RNCM tour to China where she performed as soloist with the RNCM String Ensemble. She also performed with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra and also regularly performs as soloist with orchestras across the UK. In May Sophie will perform with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra at the RNCM and will perform a Manchester Midday Society recital in the Bridgewater Hall next year.

Following her passion for chamber music, Sophie has also performs frequently with her piano trio and in masterclasses given by world leading ensembles. In May the trio will perform in the Purcell Room, London Southbank Centre.

Sophie has taken part in many masterclasses with eminent musicians such as Ivry Gitlis, Oleh Krysa, Zvi Zeitlin, Atis Bankas, Mauricio Fuks, Gordon Back, Dong Suk Kang, Yuri Torchinsky, Sarah Chang, Gabor Takas-Nagy, Gerard Poulet and Nikolaj Znaider.

Sophie's studies have been kindly supported by several award foundations including, the London Philharmonia Martin Music Scholarship, the Manchester Graucob Award, the Leverhulme Scholarship,the High Sheriff of Cheshire's Prize for Music, The Stephen Bell Charitable Trust,The Lauriston School Trust, The Stephen Picker Trust and is a recipient of the Musicians Benevolent Fund Ian Fleming Charitable Trust Award 2010. Sophie was also a recipient of the Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal Award 2010.

Reviews:

In April 2012 her performance of Brahms Violin Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra was broadcast on Classic FM. The broadcast covered the final of the 2nd Manchester International Violin Competition December 2011 in which she was awarded Second Prize and Audience Prize.

Currently continuing her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music Sophie is a former BBC Young Musician of the Year Strings finalist. She also recently won the Lions European Musical Competition for Violin in Cannes.
